Informative Genre

For my informative genre, I decided to talk about the situation that happened recently where nearly 2,000 teachers currently working in public schools in Providence, Rhode Island were each issued a layoff notice in response to a $40 million budget shortfall. I'm going to use this information as the center piece to my informative genre and relate it toward the lack of jobs there are for students majoring in education and the effect that the case in Providence can have on these students and on teachers in general. For my research I'm going to look into education in the past and how this budget shortfall can affect kids in the public schools in Providence, and college student's as well. I also will be interviewing college students to see reaction to the lay offs, and what their plans are for the future. I will additionally be interviewing people who work in the school system as well to see what their take is on the lack of jobs within their department.
All in all, the lay off issue in Providence will unfold the many issues that people are experiencing within education worldwide.

  1. I think that this is a very good topic to talk about. I think that the situation in Rhode Island is not good, not only for the teachers but also the students. In the long run I think that this will effect the students more, because teachers can always find a job but those students are going to be missing out on what those teachers know. Who knows, one of those teachers could be the inspiration for another student to do exceptionaly well in school. You can also talk about what is happening in Wisconson too. There is a big thing with teachers protesting. I think it might even be in Illinois.

  2. I think this is a very good topic. Who would think that teachers, the ones who educate society so they too can get a steady job, are loosing their jobs. I think you can never have enough teachers. Teachers have there own methods of teaching. Some teach by reading, others by video. With a variety of methods used by different teachers more students can get a better education. I know at my high school if one science teacher wasn't there I would have probably failed Science because none of the other science teachers could explain as well as he did. Teachers are a big part of each community, they are like the President, without him where would we be? Maybe that's not the best example, but you can see where I am trying to go.
